…You’ve just got to ride it!
Admittedly of late my freelance work has become quite up and down, and the next role or project isn’t necessarily lined up before I finish one – and it’s starting to stress me out.
It’s something I always knew would happen, but after over 2 years of almost continuous work (50% of which was a global pandemic!), I thought that I would be able to weather the storm despite the current climate. That said, I was relieved to have a discussion the other day with a recruiter who said that I wasn’t on my own, that she was experiencing this daily with her candidates, and although it’s a bit of a rubbish situation, it made me feel a little bit better that it wasn’t just me.
I have been lucky to have got this far with my freelance work, and genuinely enjoy the variety of tasks that I do and the variety of clients and people that I have met and continue to meet along the way. I LOVE getting a new set of brand guidelines and working out how best to develop the project or content I’m working on. I LOVE my regulars and have learned to understand who the easy going folks are and which ones are the more detail orientated. Those that want to chat it over and those that simply let me get on with it. I LOVE when the work I have produced goes live and it gets feedback from the general population within seconds.
In short, I LOVE what I do.
And that’s why although it’s not great at the moment and I feel a bit like I’m always pushing for the next project and that I may be coming across as desperate on the social platforms it’s why I will continue to pursue being a freelancer. It’s what I do and for now – I’ve just got to ride it!
