One year on…

Well, what a year it has been!

This time last year, I was taking my first steps into my freelancing life. My gamble of going it alone had paid off and I was rewarded with joining a great team at the Stamford Bridge hub working towards the footballing charity event of the year, Soccer Aid, a role I was hoping would take me safely to June. It was a great start to what I had expected to be an unpredictable ride, but little did I know that what I had expected to be an unpredictable year for me, would fast become a rollercoaster ride on a global scale with the onset of Coronavirus.

Within a few short weeks of the first rumblings of Covid-19 I, like so many people, was thrown into uncertainty, as the Soccer Aid event was put on hold and my services were no longer required. I retreated back home and within days the country was in lockdown.

And then came a phone call when I was in Morrisons, from a man who became my knight in shining armour!

Someone I had briefly worked with at Soccer Aid put me in touch with the team at OTRO studios… They needed a designer for their presentation pitches and he had thought of me… I jumped at the chance, and I am still working with the team today 🙂 Without this opportunity I am not quite sure how my 2020 would have gone, but I can safely say I would have been floundering in the dark for quite some time. He called me and led me out of the darkness 🙂

Since then my little business has gone from strength to strength. OTRO Studios (now Element Studios UK) continue to be my main client, and I aim to look after them (and all my clients!) in every way that I can. Soccer Aid for Unicef came back to me too when the event was rescheduled and I hope to work with them again in 2021. Each time a new request comes in I do an internal happy dance as this is what I went freelance for. To work on a wide range of projects with a wide range of people. I now have a few regulars along with these including SkyBet and Super 6, and the disability charity Scope who are the latest to require my services.

I am forever grateful to those that get in touch, as without you I would never have been able to go it alone, so thank you for being my clients, and thank you for getting me through 2020 and thank you for helping my little business roll into it’s second year.

Here’s to 2021, may it bring everyone a little more joy than 2020!
